Confessions of a LATECOMER

You know what I just don’t like waiting, I don’t have the patience for it, so what do I do to avoid it – reach late, and become a LATECOMER.

Tell me what fun is in reaching a meeting on time only to wait for others to join, especially in my society where even the host is not ready for the guests reaching on time.

Their invitation card requests you to be there at sharp 8:00pm while the inviter will coolly tell u to reach anywhere around 10pm, for it is an unsaid custom that you are expected to know well in advance. Now my question is – Why don’t we print 10 pm on our invitation cards and get rid of this age old wrong practice of becoming and entertaining latecomers?

In this fast pace life, wherein we are cutting down on our meals to reach office/meetings on time, giving up on those ten coveted minutes in our soft blankets during chilling winters, only to end up waiting for someone who was not ready to sacrifice his 10 minutes today, forces us to question ourselves whether it was worth it? And pat comes a reply – NO, NEVER.

So I have fully justified and proved here that being late is not quite a legal offence. Some of the latecomers (like me) would have agreed with me here. But the truth is that – it might not be a crime but it is indeed an offence for thrashing an already tormented system.

If you cannot improvise things, you should not debase them either. And this realization will dawn on you only when this unknowing habit harms you personally, as it was with me when I was on verge of missing my morning flight although being awake much before time, but resisting the wait time.

So do I swear to be always punctual in life henceforth – Well no promises here (being truthful) as you know that old habits die hard, but surely an effort will be made for I have learnt my lesson.

Dilli duur nahi thi...

My life turned into a roller coaster ride since I left my first company, with lots of good & bad experiences, ups & downs as I was out of my coveted comfort zone. Amongst all this my wish came true, for I had joined the organization with only aim of reaching near Delhi and here I am today, going through my first day in Gurgaon.

I was told a lot about lack of professionalism, politics in Delhi corporate offices, but I was determined to become a part of it one day. Let it be, I'll learn to handle it.

How am I feeling till now - NICE after having home made breakfast and lunch in office (get jealous :P), BLISSED with the feeling of reaching home after office and RELAXED with no work awaiting at home.

Did I had company of friends for breakfast/lunch - NO :( but I did met two acquaintances from past - 1 girl who joined TCS-Pune with me on same day and was transferred to Gurgaon and 1 boy whom I met in Pune dance classes. So not a bad start either :)

The project I am allocated in is going to commence from next week, so afresh start and no work load initially. Better for me.

I feel fine and something tells me that it's all going to be OK now. Wish me luck in my new start and stay in touch.

Afresh Start...

After 2 weeks of struggling/learnings I feel a bit settled in my new office.

Got two lady friends (cannot address them as girls, since both are married) for eating/talking together. Both have started getting used to my blabberings like my previous colleagues were :)

Sure I miss the company of my old friends, but this is a new experience that had to begin some day. So here I am, meeting new people each day, exploring plenty of Puneities. From Puneities, I mean people residing in Pune for long now, thanks to the Pune IT boom.

I come to office not via bus but a car pool now, with two intellects (IT professionals). So my morning begins with discussions over topics ranging from movies to politics to health.

Got a new project after a 30 min client interview, which went smooth as there was no technical discussion but only a basic overview, for the American (who took my interview) was too interested to talk, only to find that he has got a suitable match :)

I am evolving as a person with all this new change/experience that I resented initially but appreciate now. For I feel life is to learn and I am learning a lot.
